ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — Police in St. Petersburg are investigating a shooting that left a man dead and a woman injured late Sunday night.
The incident occurred in the 1300 block of 13th Avenue South at about 11:30 p.m.
Police said the victims were with a group of people on the street when someone opened fire behind a home across the street.

A man and woman, ages 28 and 25, were hit by bullets. The man was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and later died. The woman suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Police identified the man as Demario Q. Thomas.
Cynthia Bowman says she was inside her home Sunday night when she heard several gunshots. When she finally looked outside, she saw police everywhere.
Bowman lives on 12th Avenue. She’s lived in the neighborhood for several years and says the violence is getting worse.
“It’s getting to be bad because I have to keep my doors locked at night because I do hear a lot of shootings,” Bowman said. “I don’t want to move, we just stay as family like we’ve been doing, but we do need to get together and start watching these people who walk late at night because that’s when it happens, late at night.”
A police spokeswoman tells 8 On Your Side they don’t believe the shooting was random. Neighbors like Bowman say something needs to change.
“It’s people who come around here and have beef with each other I guess, I don’t know but it needs to stop,” Bowman said.
No arrests have been made at this time.
Those with information are being told to call police or text their tip to TIP411.
