The Mountain Goats

In a world rife with indie-rock auteurs, John Darnielle stands near the top of the heap, and he’s inviting Tampa Bay fans to come stand next to him this summer.

Darnielle, 55, is bringing his band The Mountain Goats to St. Petersburg on Monday, July 11, and tickets to see the show at Palladium Theater’s Hough Hall are on sale now for $35.

The 55-year-old songwriter (pictured, above right) is best known for his band’s nearly two-dozen albums released as part of a 28-year career that’s earned Darnielle hardcore fans who hang on every word in not just his liner notes of cassettes, CDs, and vinyl, plus the novels and podcasts he’s released and been a part of along the way.
We fully expect all of Tampa—including the city’s newest councilwoman, Lynn Hurtak, who is a Mountain Goats superfan—to make the trip across the bridge for this one where Darnielle & co. support a 2021 album, Dark in Here. Country songwriter Izzy Heltai opens the show.
