ST. PETERSBURG — A man walking across the street was struck and killed by a dump truck Friday morning, St. Petersburg police said.
John McDougal, 54, died in the collision at 6:35 a.m. as he crossed 28th Street N from east to west near 102nd Avenue. The scene is an area of commercial and industrial buildings, including the Pinellas County Solid Waste Disposal Complex.
Traffic in both directions on 28th Street N was diverted for several hours. The driver stopped at the scene and cooperated with officers. The investigation continues.
Nine pedestrians and bicyclists have died in Pinellas County during 2022, according to data reported through Friday morning by law enforcement agencies.
