ST. PETE BEACH — A 56-year-old woman died Sunday after the driver of an SUV struck her as she tried to cross a street in St. Pete Beach, deputies said.

Lynn M. Gilliland, 56, of St. Petersburg died at a local hospital after the crash that happened about 7 p.m. at 709 Gulf Way, according to a news release from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

Jolee-Ana Rose Eaton, 21, of Pinellas Park was driving a Nissan Pathfinder west on 8th Avenue and tried turn left onto Gulf Way when she struck Gilliland and another woman with her, 68-year-old Maria Rodriguez, also of St. Petersburg. The two women were trying to cross Gulf Way from west to east and were not in a designated crosswalk at the time, deputies said.

Both women were taken to local hospitals. Rodriguez had injuries that deputies said were not life-threatening.

Deputies do no think speed or impairment were factors in the crash, the news release said.
