SOUTH PASADENA — The City Commission recently voted to keep the current property tax rate and raise sewer charges.

The property tax rate will remain at $3.50 for each $1,000 of assessed, taxable value. A home valued at $100,000 after homestead exemptions would pay $350 in property taxes.

The city’s total value of taxable property increased by 5.1 percent this year.

A 15 percent sewer rate increase will go into effect beginning Tuesday. At a workshop earlier this year, commissioners agreed that the rate increase is necessary to keep up with the rise in sewage processing fees being paid to the city of St. Petersburg.

For a South Pasadena home using 4,300 gallons of water a month, the monthly sewer charge will go from $28.83 to $33.13.

Also starting Tuesday, the city’s general employees will receive a 3 percent cost of living increase and firefighters 3.5 percent.
