A fire broke out at the Tradewinds Island Resort on St. Pete Beach early Tuesday morning, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies and fire rescue responded to the fire about 3 a.m., according to Sheriff’s spokesperson Sgt. Amanda Sinni. No injuries were reported at the resort, located at 5500 Gulf Blvd.
According to a statement from Bob LaCasse, managing director of TradeWinds Island Resorts, the fire took place in the Bluegreen timeshare building of the Tradewinds Island Grand. The fire started in an air conditioning unit on the 6th floor.
“The building has been secured and a room by room assessment is currently taking place,” LaCasse said in his statement. “A portion of the building will remain closed at this time and we are working diligently to relocate those resort guests.”
It was unclear Tuesday how many people were evacuated.
An investigation is ongoing.
