ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — A person is in custody after a shooting that left two men dead in St. Petersburg early Saturday morning.
At about 4:30 a.m., police responded to a shooting in the area of 33rd Street North and Fairfield Avenue, near Gibbs High School.
Police identified the victims Saturday afternoon as 31-year-old Alair J. Moncrieffe and 49-year-old Timothy Lemar Marshall.

Police said the men were shot during an altercation involving another man, later identified as 26-year-old Marquis Herring, who turned himself into police Saturday afternoon.

Tommy Wall was asleep when he said the gunshots woke him up. He says in almost 30 years living in this neighborhood, this is a first.
“The sad part is to see loved ones who have to go through this, losing a loved one for no reason,” Wall said. “We just have to pray for them, and pray for us.”
Another neighbor who didn’t want to be identified said the gunshots also woke her up.
“It’s scary because it’s so close to home,” she said. “It’s sad but it’s very scary. You hate to get that phone call at 4:30 in the morning because you know something is wrong, and my heart goes out to them.”

St. Petersburg police say Herring has been charged with one count of second-degree murder for the death of Moncrieffe, however, additional charges are possible pending the outcome of the investigation.
