TREASURE ISLAND, FL — The construction contractor for the long-awaited East Causeway Roadway and Drainage Improvements Project will begin work the week of Nov. 8.
There will be lane closures as needed to perform site preparation and to begin the installation of the new drainage infrastructure, according to a news release from the city.
The contractor is required to maintain an organized work site and safe traffic patterns.
The project has been designed to minimize the need for long-duration roadway closures. However, there will be certain phases during construction where lane closures will be needed and drivers may experience traffic delays.
Residents and visitors will be notified in advance.
The long-awaited project is proceeding following several years of discussion and delays including the city’s decision in January 2019 to terminate an interlocal agreement with the city of St. Petersburg.
The project is intended to improve the drainage on that stretch of road, which collects water at high tide and during heavy rains. The corridor serves more than 20,000 vehicles per day.
The construction will continue through May.
